Russia's central bank sets Sept 2026 deadline for licensed crypto intermediaries
- —Transition period runs until July 2027, after which only licensed intermediaries may handle crypto trades
- —Non-qualified investors get BTC, ETH and USDT only, capped at 300,000 rubles a year per intermediary
- —Qualified investors can buy any crypto with no transaction limits
- —From September 1, 2027, transfers above 100,000 rubles to foreign wallets face a 48-hour delay
Why it matters: Russia is placing its crypto market under central bank and depository control, curbing retail access and reshaping local brokers and exchanges.
