France proposes taxing crypto-to-stablecoin conversions from 2027
- —Crypto-to-fiat-stablecoin swaps would become taxable from January 1, 2027
- —Amendment I-CF1826 was tabled by MP Nicolas Sansu and adopted by the committee on Wednesday
- —Amendment I-CCF798 would allow crypto losses to be offset over a 10-year period
- —Exit tax on unrealized gains would apply to holdings above €800,000 when tax residency changes
Why it matters: If enacted, EU holders could owe tax on moving into stablecoins without cashing out to fiat, potentially curbing stablecoin turnover in France.
