Russia's Sberbank Becomes First Bank Approved to Custody Bitcoin
- —Bank of Russia approved Sberbank for "digital currency record-keeping" and asset transfers
- —The approval covers bitcoin and other, smaller cryptocurrencies
- —Transactions will run through SberBank Online, SberInvestments and SberBusiness with no new apps
- —The service will be offered to a limited number of customers before mass rollout
Why it matters: Russia's largest bank is folding crypto into familiar banking interfaces, deepening institutional adoption in the country.
