Ethereum Foundation and Open Anonymity Project launch zkAPI for private API payments
- —zkAPI separates the payment layer from the request layer: providers see requests but not the payer
- —Credits are deposited into an Ethereum vault contract in one transaction and held as a private note
- —Spends are proven with Groth16 on BN254, commitments hashed with Poseidon, notes stored in a 32-level Merkle tree
- —The client exposes standard OpenAI and Ollama APIs on localhost, so existing apps work unchanged
Why it matters: The protocol reduces deanonymization risk for AI users and sets a standard for private payments on metered APIs.
