Coinbase: exchanges can cut quantum risks before network upgrade
- —Glassnode: about 1.6 million BTC on exchange addresses have visible public keys
- —A total of 6.04 million BTC (30.2% of supply) had key exposure as of May 2026
- —BIP-360 proposes P2MR to reduce long-term exposure, but without post-quantum signatures
- —Workshop participants did not reach a unified approach due to trade-offs on transaction size and hardware
Why it matters: The quantum threat is not yet active, but exchanges and custodians will have to change key and address management in advance.
