Bitcoin Core discloses undo file overflow bug
- —Undo file positions were stored as 32-bit integers, allowing files to exceed 4 GiB
- —On Windows and 32-bit systems, failure occurs at 2 GiB without any reorg
- —Exploiting it on 64-bit systems is impractical, requiring thousands of mined blocks
- —Fix uses 64-bit positions and file calls; on-disk format is unchanged
Why it matters: Low severity, but nodes on 32-bit systems and FAT32 should upgrade or migrate to 64-bit systems.
