Bitcoin and Ethereum take different paths to post-quantum wallets
- —Bitcoin's BIP-360 (P2MR) is a draft requiring a soft fork and does not add post-quantum signatures
- —Ethereum can verify post-quantum signatures in smart contracts without a hard fork
- —EIP-8141 frame transactions remain a draft; Geth v1.17.9 does not accept them
- —SPHINCS- code is unaudited and flagged as unsafe for real funds
Why it matters: The quantum threat is not yet urgent, but migration will take years, making wallet readiness and validation rules the key milestones.
