Bitcoin needs $82,900 to offset 4.7% mining difficulty increase
- —mempool.space forecast: difficulty +4.6976% on September 19, 661 blocks remaining
- —Hashrate Index previously estimated the same retarget at +5.26%
- —Hashprice at $39.25 per PH/day with BTC at $79,020; after the difficulty rise it will fall to about $37.49
- —Fees account for only 0.59% of miner rewards — 0.0183 BTC per block
Why it matters: Rising difficulty squeezes miner margins: at $48/MWh, machines costing more than about 34.6 J/TH will not even cover electricity, which could intensify BTC selling pressure.
